Celebrate Orleans County’s Heritage and Canal Town Culture with a NEW Perspective!

Celebrate Orleans County’s bounty Saturdays at the Canal Village Farmers Market in Medina through October featuring epicurean delights from locally grown produce, craft beverages, locally raised meats, as well as a variety of artists each week.  The Farmers Market is highlighted by its 2nd annual Farm to Table Dinner with seating for 200 in the middle of Main Street, Medina August 3rd featuring a locally sourced 5-course meal prepared by two guest chefs. There are plenty more chances available to celebrate our harvest as Fall approaches: the popular Steampunk Festival at Leonard Oakes Estate Winery, August 26th and Watt Farms Country Market Peach Brunch August 6th and Apple Harvest Brunches September 17th & 24th, October 1st & 8th.  Kendall hosts their annual Scarecrow Festival October 7th with plenty of family activities planned.

Join us for a special evening on the beach August 9th as Shake on the Lake performs Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet using the Oak Orchard Lighthouse as their stage and a Lake Ontario sunset as their backdrop.

August 10th, celebrate Medina’s 185th birthday and the Erie Canal’s bicentennial by touring the Schooner Lois McClure as it docks at the Erie Canal Basin. The party includes birthday cake, live music and family entertainment.

The 3rd annual Metro 10 is scheduled for August 19th at Bullard Park in Albion where runners will compete for the coveted trophy for either Team Rochester (the defending champions) or Team Buffalo. www.metro10race.com

Cruise in, by boat, bike or traditional methods to our Summer Concert Series on the water:  Tuesday nights at the Orleans County Marine Park until August 15th and Concerts on the Canal Fridays until August 25th in Holley.

Celebrate our rich heritage at the 2nd annual Orleans County Heritage Festival, Sept. 8-17. Orleans County partners with Genesee Community College to host a county-wide celebration of historical and cultural attractions centering around four themes: the Erie Canal, our Military history, Cobblestone & Sandstone and “Legends & Lore, Spirits and Supernatural”.  Highlights include a kick-off party (featuring live music by City Fiddle), Victorian Spiritualism & seance re-enactment, the Heartland Passage Tour and Epochs in Orleans Timeline Festival just to name a few. www.orleansnyheritage.com.

Taste our award- winning wines where the Niagara Wine Trail connects to the Finger Lakes Wine Trail during any one of their themed events. Treat yourself to a drive in the country and discover the Cobblestone Society Museum complex and the Country Barn Quilt Trail. Cycle or cruise Historic Erie Canal Trail, or take a themed train ride from the Medina Railroad Museum and marvel at their impressive HO models in the original train depot.
