From family fun and outdoor recreation to world-class entertainment, endless opportunities await you in Genesee County.
Plan a winter vacation and try your hand at hiking, snowmobiling, cross-county skiing, and even snowshoeing. Winter in New York State can be majestic and fun, and there is no better way to experience it than to bundle up and jump right in.
After a day of playing in the snow, switch to swimsuits and visit Palm Island Water Park, located at the Quality Inn & Suites in Batavia. The indoor waterpark is convenient, offers affordable packages, and is a great place for families of all ages to play. Youngsters will love the children’s pool, 5-way tipping buckets, mushroom umbrella, and Play Lagoon with a beach entry. Older kids (yes, that includes adults!) will spend time whipping down the 196-foot translucent slide, playing hoops, or relaxing in the underwater lighted hot tub.
While shopping is a year-round activity, visit around the holidays and you’ll find unique gift opportunities in our village shops. There is something for everyone at Country Cottage, The Hobby Horse, the Batavia Bootery, Oliver’s Candies, and Adam Miller’s Toy Store, to name a few.
Come during the spring and you’ll find a whole different set of experiences to enjoy. The warmer weather brings out the animals – especially alpacas. Places like Alpaca Delights and Enchanted Forest Alpacas let you meet the animals, purchase yarn and handmade clothing, and see demonstrations on spinning, needle felting, and carding alpaca fur. Shearing takes place in the spring as the animals lose their heavy winter coat!
Visitors can also enjoy a round of golf, white-water rafting, a cruise along the Erie Canal, a stroll through the Batavia Peace Garden, and shopping at the county’s various farms and farm markets in the springtime.
No matter which season you visit, Genesee County is full of fun. Batavia Downs Gaming recently enhanced its reputation as major gaming and entertainment destination with the addition of an 84-room hotel. Opened in October 2016, the hotel is attached to the gaming facility, with some rooms and suites overlooking the harness racing track. Now patrons can play, dine, and stay at this winning location. Live harness racing runs August to mid-December.
*Note: Only persons 18 and older are allowed on the gaming floor. Anyone below the age of 18 is welcome in any non-gaming area of the downs, including viewable racing sections in the clubhouse.
